Caravaggio and Picasso. Two beautiful exhibitions to see in Rome

We would like to point out two beautiful exhibitions not to be missed in Rome.

Picasso The Stranger at Palazzo Cipolla in via del Corso.

The exhibition investigates the identity of Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 – Mougins, 1973), as an immigrant in France, a country where, despite his international fame, he never managed to obtain citizenship. A journey that blends aesthetics and politics, to tell how the artist transformed the art of the 20th century by living as a “foreigner”.

It does so through more than 100 works by the Spanish artist, as well as documents, photographs, letters and videos. Compared to the stages of Palazzo Reale in Milan and Palazzo Te in Mantua, the Roman exhibition itinerary is enriched with a nucleus of unpublished works, selected by the curator exclusively for the Palazzo Cipolla exhibition.

The works on display come primarily from the Musée National Picasso-Paris. Other important lenders are the Palais de la Porte Dorée, the Museu Picasso Barcelona, the Musée Picasso of Antibes, the Musée Magnelli – Musée de la Céramique of Vallauris and some prestigious European private collections.

The Picasso the Stranger exhibition will take place from 27 February to 29 June 2025

Caravaggio 2025 at Palazzo Barberini

It is organized in collaboration with the Borghese Gallery, with the support of the General Directorate of Museums, Ministry of Culture and with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo.

There will be exhibited both lesser-known works by Caravaggio, which are very difficult to admire in other contexts, and some of his most famous paintings, such as for example:

the Portrait of Maffeo Barberini
the Ecce Homo, coming from the Prado Museum in Madrid and admirable in Italy after centuries
the Saint Catherine of Alexandria, from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, also in Madrid
Marta and Maddalena of the Detroit Institute of Arts
Judith and Holofernes, preserved in the same Palazzo Barberini
the St. John the Baptist at the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City
the Saint Francis in Ecstasy at the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art in Hartford
the Bari of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth.

The exhibition is completed by the Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, on loan from Intesa San Paolo, the last painting created by Caravaggio, shortly before his death.

The exhibition is curated by Francesca Cappelletti, Maria Cristina Terzaghi and Thomas Clement Salomon, the director of the Barberini Corsini Galleries.

The Caravaggio 2025 exhibition will take place from 7 March to 6 July 2025.
